The Preschool curriculum is defined in Resurrection Lutheran Academy’s Curriculum Guide. The curriculum of the school meets the requirements set forth in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod’s curriculum guide, Integrating the Faith, and adheres to norms generally accepted in the Early Childhood community. We are proud to be a part of over 2500 Lutheran schools around the country. We have the largest Protestant school system in the United States.
Generally the curriculum includes the following:
RELIGION: Bible stories prayers, songs, application and practice to Bible truths
- PHONICS: Reading readiness begins here with learning of letter names, letter sounds and pertinent letters associated with each child, such as name and address.
- LANGUAGE ARTS: Listening skills, expression of feelings, ideas, understandings, and attitudes in a clear and understandable manner as they relate to a story that is read orally to them.
- MATHEMATICS: Counting, ordering and comparing numbers, quantitative cognition of shapes
- SCIENCE: Interaction with the world as created by God, health and nutrition
- SOCIAL STUDIES: How people live and work together to form a community; how people lived in the past; and recognition and appreciation of cultural differences
- MUSIC: Singing, rhythm activities, listening (Students receive the voluntary opportunity to sing at the five supporting congregations at Sunday services and to participate in the annual Children’s Christmas service)
- ART: Painting, drawing, tracing, cutting, pasting, coloring, and various craft projects
- PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Development of large muscle skills; encouragement of Christian attitudes in playing games
FREE PLAY is a time for the children to explore and experiment with the materials and toys in the classroom. Children can choose what they want to do. Examples of available choices are building with blocks, table games, puppets, math manipulatives, and dress up clothes
GUIDED DISCOVERY is a more structured playtime. Students are divided into groups and spend time at different learning centers.
